Did you know that Love is mentioned in the Bible(NLT) 645 times? That quantity signifies importance. Jesus made His stance known on love in Matthew 22:36-40, when he said “The most important commandment is you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul and all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. A second equally important commandment: Love your neighbor as yourself.”
When we talk about Love, God shows us Agape Love. The kind of Love that is unconditional. The marvelous God we serve will Love us even when it’s not reciprocated. Try and wrap your mind around that thought. How many people would love you if they received nothing in return. The conditional love we share comes with stipulations. Most intimate relationships are dependent upon individuals satisfying one another’s Love Language. Friendship love only lasts while both parties are in agreement. We should rejoice knowing that God loves us no matter our situation.
God also mentioned that we should love our neighbor. God is not only talking about the person who lives next door. To get a better understanding of your neighbor read the “Parable of the Good Samaritan.” I’ll summarize the parable from today’s point of view. A gentleman was traveling when he was robbed and left for dead. A pastor saw the gentleman lying in the road and crossed over to the other side. Another church goer came by and replicated the pastor’s action. A delinquent noticed the gentleman and had compassion and took care of him. The delinquent was the gentleman’s neighbor and we have been challenged to follow his lead.
With the amount of hate in the world today, let’s be a beacon of light and love unconditionally. If it sounds impossible, lean on God because everything is possible with Him.
If you leave with nothing else, just know that I love you and it’s nothing you can do about it!
Prayer:
Lord, we know that you gave us another command, to love each other as you have loved us. Lord, we need your help accomplishing this task. Show us the way Lord and we will be careful to give you all the Honor and all the Praise. Amen.
