Prayer is a Powerful Tool

During your Prayer Time, please use extreme caution while praying. Prayer is one of the most powerful tools on earth. If not used correctly, it can cause severe confusion and frustration. I’ll give you a few instructions so you can use this tool safely.

Abraham, our “Father in Faith” was one of the first to show how prayer can lead to confusion. If you are unfamiliar with the story, Abraham was married to Sarah who was infertile. Abraham prayed to God that he needed a son to carry on his family’s name. God answered Abraham’s prayer with a son named Isaac. Great story, right? The confusion lies in what God asked Abraham to do years later. God tested Abraham by telling him to go and sacrifice/kill Isaac. Don’t worry Abraham was able to pass the test without sacrificing his son. But why would God ask him to do that? God wanted to make sure he was still faithful after receiving his blessings. I also believe God wanted to make sure Abraham wouldn’t put his son before him. As he has said, “put no one before me.” God will definitely answer prayers, but we must be ready for the test to follow.

To see the prayer tool in action in modern day, I’ll give you a personal testimony. Often, before I enter the workplace, I pray for strength to get through the day. I noticed when I pray this prayer I would have an arduous day. Tough circumstances are ways the Lord gives us more strength. It’s like weightlifting to build muscle. You break the muscle down to help them grow back stronger. This method is not something I enjoy. But upon reflection, problems that once caused stress, I lift without a sweat.

The last cautionary point in using the prayer tool is being careful with your wording while praying. Early on in my prayer life I would ask God for everything I could think of. It’s nothing wrong with this as Philippians 4:6 says, “Don’t worry about anything, instead pray about everything….” My disclaimer I put at the end of my prayer now is “Not my Will but thine Will be done.” I want nothing that’s not in God’s Will for life. A simpler way to put it, if my name is not on it, reject it, Lord.

Prayer:

Lord, Thank You for all you have done in our life. Lord, Bless everyone reading this message and praying to you right now. Give them the desires of their heart according to Your Will. We Will be careful to give You all the honor and all the glory. Amen.
