Sometimes All We Have Is Hope

Has life ever put you in a situation where all you could do was Hope? You tried calling on God and it seems as if He is screening your calls. You start to wonder if He has you blocked. So now, you can’t get in touch with God. Family and friends can’t help you. All you can do is hope things turn around. If you haven’t felt this way keep living.

When speaking about Hope, it reminds me of the story of Job in the Bible. You remember Job, He was someone God said was a man of integrity and stayed away from all evil. And shortly after this statement, Job lost his wealth, family and eventually his health. Wait God, You said he was good, now his life is full of hell. Sounds Familiar?!

Let’s discuss some key points when Hope is your only option:

The first thing you have to do is keep living. This sounds simple, but life can place you in a position where you would rather end it today. We have to remember we can’t solve a temporary problem with a permanent solution. No matter what happens, keep getting up daily putting one foot in front of the other and placing your hope in God. Psalm 71:5 says “O Lord, you alone are my hope…”

Next is start journaling your feelings. I spoke about this in “Checking Your Mental Inventory.” When you are feeling down and out, write and tell God about it. If He won’t answer your prayer calls at that moment express your concern through writing. The main benefit through journaling is it gives you a chance to reflect on God’s goodness when the situation turns around. And it will turn around because I’ve seen Him do it numerous times.

Journaling to God also makes things clear of what’s “Feelings” and what’s “Real.” Our feelings are temporary emotions that swings our mood. The real is our actual state of being which is Blessed and Highly Favored. An example of this was Job 17:11, which says “My days are over. My hopes have disappeared. My heart’s desires are broken.” Sounds like Job is in his feelings. If we fast forward to the end of the story, Job took back every negative word he spoke and repented. The Lord then gave him a double Blessing for everything he lost. Now that’s “The Real.”

Prayer:

Lord, Thank You for being a gracious and forgiving God. Lord right now we Thank You for the good as well as the bad times. We ask that you give us a mind to know that you are always by our side, no matter the situation. We will be careful to give You all the honor and all the praise. Amen.
